Serves: 3
Ingredients :
- 2 medium size potatoes
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1/2 tsp mustard
- one dry red chilly chopped into 3 pieces.
- 10 curry leaves/kadi patta
- 1 tbsp coconut oil/ghee
- salt as required
- pinch of Asafoetida
- jagri of size half lemon
- 2 tsp tamarind paste
- one tbsp chopped coriander leaves
- 3-4 tbsp of grated coconut
- 1 tbsp MTR rasam powder /any rasam powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilly powder (optional)
- 2-3 pepper corns
How to Prepare ?
- grind coconut , red chilly powder, 1/4 tbsp of coriander leaves and pepper corns together into a thin paste and keep it aside.
- wash, peel the potatoes and boil .Smash it nicely and keep it aside. You can also put boiled potatoes in a mixer/blender and make it into a fine paste instead of smashing the same.
- Mix 1 cup of water, tamarind , turmeric powder, jagri , rasam powder and salt in a large cooking vessel and bring it to boil. Continue boiling for 6-8 mins.
- Now add ground masala , smashed potatoes and boil it for 6-7 mins. Check for consistency and add water if required.
- finally add Asafoetida ,coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
- heat oil in another pan ,add mustard seeds , urad dal and red chilly. Fry till the mustard seed pops out , now add curry leaves and switch off the flame. Add this seasoning on top before you serve.
- This goes well with hot rice and ghee.
