This is real quick breakfast which I can think of :-). Green chilly and lemon adds a very special taste to this dish.
1 cup of semolina/couscous/sooji
salt
1 tsp of sugar
half medium size red capsicum (chopped into thin long pieces)
2 green chilly
1 tsp grated ginger (optional)
pinch of turmeric( optional)
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp fresh grated coconut / kokos raspeln
For seasoning:
1 tbsp of ghee/any vegetable oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
10-15 ground nuts
1 tsp urad dal
10-12 curry leaves
1 dry red chilly slit into 2-3 pieces(optional)
Serves 2
Ingredients :
salt
1 tsp of sugar
half medium size red capsicum (chopped into thin long pieces)
2 green chilly
1 tsp grated ginger (optional)
pinch of turmeric( optional)
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp fresh grated coconut / kokos raspeln
For seasoning:
1 tbsp of ghee/any vegetable oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
10-15 ground nuts
1 tsp urad dal
10-12 curry leaves
1 dry red chilly slit into 2-3 pieces(optional)
How to Prepare?
- In a heavy bottomed pan prepare the seasoning . Add oil , and then ground nuts . Fry nicely until nuts give a good aroma. Now add urad dal , mustad seeds , red chilly . As soon as mustard seeds pops out add curry leaves and give a quick stir.
- Add chopped red capsicum on top of the seasoning and fry for 3-4 mins.
- Add semolina to the same pan , keep the flame in a medium and roast it for about 5-7 mins. Add salt , sugar and pinch of turmeric and mix it well .Stop roasting as soon as you see semolina starts becoming light brown at the bottom.
- Now add two and half cups of hot water to it . and stir gently and avoid lumps by continuous stir.
- close the lid and cook for about 5-6 mins or till it gets into upma consistency .
- At last add grated coconut and lemon juice and mix it well .
- Serve hot with coconut chutney or sugar .
Note:
- I have used couscous which is in yellow color . If you use normal sooji /semolina then at the end upma will turn to pale yellow/brown .
- Instead of ground nuts my father uses cashew nuts , that again gives a very good taste.
