This is one of the most famous variety rice of Tamil Nadu, India. Its very easy to prepare and very tasty . This is a quick dish can be prepared and served when you don't have mood to prepare full course meal.
Ingredients:
1 cup Rice
1/3 cup toor dal
1 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
1 green chilly chopped into halves
1 tbsp ghee
1/2 onion , chopped finely
1 tomato , chopped finely
for Seasoning:
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 dry red chilly chopped into halves
1/4 tsp asafoetida
1 green chilly chopped into halves
2 tbsp cooking oil
8-10 curry leaves
How To Prepare?
Ingredients:
1 cup Rice

1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 dry red chilly chopped into halves
1/4 tsp asafoetida
1 green chilly chopped into halves
2 tbsp cooking oil
8-10 curry leaves
How To Prepare?
- Soak Rice and dal together for about 3-4 hours. Drain the water before the preparation and keep it aside.
- Chop coriander leaves, tomato, green chilly and onion and keep it ready.
- In a heavy bottomed pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilly to it. After the mustard pops out add curry leaves, green chilly and asafoetida powder. Fry for few secs.
- Now add chopped onion and turmeric powder. Saute nicely till onions become golden brown.
- Add tomatoes and 1 tbsp of coriander leaves, Saute for 1-2 mins.
- Add salt and soaked rice and dal and water. ( Proportion is rice+dal : water = 1:2)
- Now Transfer this mixture to a vessel which can be kept inside the cooker. Pressure cook it for three whistles and switch off the flame.(If you want to cook the rice directly in cooker then start the preparation in cooker itself instead of kadai/other vessel)
- After you open the cooker , mix the contents by adding remaining coriander leaves and a spoon full of ghee to it.
- Serve hot with pappadam /chips/ potato fry.
